Police: Cement Mixer Causes Fatal Six-Vehicle Accident

One person was killed in a six-vehicle accident on Route 100 in Pasadena Tuesday that police say was caused when the driver of a concrete  mixer rear-ended a stopped vehicle.

According to the Anne Arundel police department, the mixer truck failed to stop for traffic ahead that was stopped, causing the chain reaction of collisions. The pileup happened at about 3:14 p.m. on eastbound Route 100 near Waterford Road.

One crash victim was pronounced dead by fire department personnel at the scene, and four other people were injured.

Police said the concrete truck landed on top of one of the cars, killing the driver inside, reports WBAL TV.

Scott Robert Johnston, 54, of the 100 block of Litton Dale Lane in Pasadena, was killed when his 2003 Toyota Tacoma was struck, police said.

The driver of the cement mixer was Taylor Lee Russell, 70, of the 10 block of The Byway Road in Owings Mills. He was not injured.

Police said the drivers of four other vehicles caught up in the chain reaction all suffered minor injuries. They are:

Alexis Christine Gibson, 20, of the 1000 block of Hilltop Road in Glen Burnie, driver of a 2004 Ford Expedition.

Robert Cummins Clickner, 30, of the 300 block of Steedman Point Road in Pasadena, driver of a 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche.

Laura Lynn Taylor, 47, of the 7800 block of Dero Drive in Pasadena, driver of a 2014 Chrysler Town & Country.

Cathleen Adel Benson, 61, of the 8200 block of Mission Road in Jessup, driver of a 1996 Jeep Cherokee.

Excessive speed does not appear to be a factor in this crash, police said. There was also no suspicion of alcohol and/or drug impairment. This investigation is ongoing.
